Launch Announcement: Maine Court Rules Website
The State of Maine Judicial Branch publishes its court rules in PDF format. That’s great if you want to print a hard copy, but it’s pretty cumbersome to use digitally. The Rules of Civil Procedure PDF clocks in at 68 pages, for instance, and the table of contents isn’t hyperlinked to the rules themselves. I find it a bit unwieldy and time consuming to check rule language.
I check rule language daily. I wanted a tool to make this easier; it makes my work more efficient. And I figured, I’m probably not the only Maine attorney who would use this — why not make the tool public?
So I did. Please click on over to mainecourtrules.org and take a look. Let me know what you think. Currently, I have civil procedure, criminal procedure, appellate procedure, and evidence online.
Please note that the site just went live today, May 12, 2025. It’s still under construction. I believe the rule language is correct and formatted properly, but the web-based rules were hand transcribed from the official PDFs. Transcription errors are possible, perhaps likely. For mission critical (ie., dispositive) issues, I advise users to check the official publication to make sure.
